What could scientists possibly gain from hiding the truth?

I have seen many people on here claim that scientists are just trying to cover up the truth about how evolution is false, or that they are hiding the proof of creationism for their own selfish reasons. But what I don’t understand is if that were true, what on earth would scientists gain from hiding the truth? How could it help them any to promote something that is false?
