If a parent cell has 8 chromosomes, what will be the outcome of mitosis?

Mitosis is what happens when cells need to divide to make more of the same cell. The daughter cell must have the same number of chromosomes as the parent, otherwise it is not the same cell anymore. The parent cell would double all of its chromosomes and then split in half, each half getting 8 chromosomes. Meiosis, which is what happens for cells, would shuffle the chromosomes around and the cell would only 4 from one parent, and 4 from another.
