How come a lot of white people think indians get affirmative action?

I'm talking about indians from India, not native americans. I've been asked by white people a few times "shouldn't it be easier for you to get into college since you're a minority?", and this PISSES me off. Indians (and east asians) have a HARDER time getting into college than white people. Just look at what the University of California system is doing to get more white students to enroll. The truth is, when an admissions officer sees an indian/asian who wants to be a doctor/engineer, they just file them with the scores of others who want the same profession. So why do white people consistently talk about how "minorities" get affirmative action when that's CLEARLY not the case?
